Platini Nemeye popularly known as Platini P or Baba, has been nominated for one of the continent’s most admired music awards, All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), under the category of the best artiste, duo or group on the African continent.

Platini and Meddy are the only Rwandans nominated this year in AFRIMA which is set to take place in October next month

Platini P who had recently signed a deal with a Nigerian company, One Percent International, is nominated in the same category with 10 other musicians, including afro-beat maker Kiss Daniel.

The award ceremony will be live this year, with Platini P as one of the expected performers of the show.

According to Platini, being nominated for AFRIMA is nothing to him, but a big step for the whole Rwandan music industry in general.

"Our music is rising at a good pace which is something that everyone can notice with their eyes. From such opportunities, there is hope that we can even take the award home.”

"It is not our first time to be nominated, but the best part is that I will even perform at the event,” he added.

While asked if this opportunity has something to do with the previous signed deal with a Nigerian company, Platini said that there is no connection, since his nominated song ‘Atansiyo’ was released last year before he started working with the company.

The renowned afro beat artiste also released his latest song early this month dubbed ‘Shumuleta’ which is already taking over on the continent.

All Africa Music Awards is an annual awards event, which was established by the International Committee AFRIMA, in collaboration with the African Union to reward and celebrate musical works, talents and creativity around the African continent while promoting the African cultural heritage.
