None among the national football federations’ administrators in the Cecafa regional body has applied for the post of the presidency, the secretariat said on Monday.

The Cecafa Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye confirmed on Monday that none of member states football associations’ administrators has applied for the vacant post of the Cecafa presidency, a feat which has left the regional body perplexed.

"Iam really surprised to find that at this time, no one is willing to contest for the Cecafa presidency.

This is rare because in the past years at this time, you would find many federations sending in their representatives for the post.

"The deadline has been extended towards the end of this week.

I just hope someone comes up for the post because we may find the regional body having no president by December,” Musonye said.

Musonye further added that he was expecting Ferwafa boss Brig. Gen. John Bosco Kazura or Chief Executive Officer, Jules Kalisa to stand for the presidency because they exhibited hard work in bid of elevating the country’s football standards, a feat which would also lift the regional football standards as well when any of the latter is in office.

However, Kazura ruled out any possibilities of vying for the race of the Cecafa presidency early this month saying that he still had much to do at the national level but was willing to ensure that the body gets an able leader.

When contacted yesterday, Kalisa said that he is not interested in the post of the regional presidency.

Meanwhile, the battle for Cecafa presidency started early this month with the regional body secretariat dispatching nomination forms to member associations to nominate their preferred candidate.

Cecafa Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye is assured of another four year term as his post is by appointment.

Only the post of chairman (president) will be contested, with the elected person appointing his vice among four executive committee members elected by the congress.

With former FUFA president, Denis Obua indicating not to seek re-election, the seat was speculated to be eluded by Uganda, as Obua’s successor, Lawrence Mulindwa but he also stated recently not vie for the post.

However, sources from Burundi have revealed that their national football association president, Lydia Nsekera has declared his intention to take up the post which will be elected during annual congress which will take place in Dar es Salaam prior to the senior challenge cup due on December 8-22 at Tanzania’s new artificial turfed stadium.
