Come Shine or Rain, We Shall Overcome

Last evening’s grenade attack at the Gisozi Genocide memorial is a clear indication that the Genocide ideology is well and truly entrenched in the hearts of a few. Last year at about the same time, the memorial site was the target of yet another attack which left one policeman dead. The executors of the attack are not an isolated lot; Only last week, someone left  a menacing note at another Genocide memorial in Ngororero in the Western Province telling all Tutsi that their “time has come” and they should “prepare their necks”.

Last evening’s grenade attack at the Gisozi Genocide memorial is a clear indication that the Genocide ideology is well and truly entrenched in the hearts of a few.

Last year at about the same time, the memorial site was the target of yet another attack which left one policeman dead.

The executors of the attack are not an isolated lot; Only last week, someone left  a menacing note at another Genocide memorial in Ngororero in the Western Province telling all Tutsi that their "time has come” and they should "prepare their necks”.

"We want to pile you on top of your people’s bones (used pejorative word – Ibigufa)”, read the chilling message.

If this is not a clear indication that some people are still bent at finishing the job they started in 1994, then nothing is. One can imagine the trauma of survivors – as they remember their loved ones –  at such a well-timed provocation.

It is perplexing to hear Human Rights Watch pompously assert, in their small neat cocoons thousands of miles away, that the ‘Genocide ideology’ is an invention of the Rwandan government as a means of getting at political opponents.

Aren’t they sliding into the well woven net of Genocide deniers they seem to be championing lately?

There is only one message for them (deniers, provocateurs and co; they have knocked on the wrong door. The people standing in front of them have a resolve that will not be shaken by any amount of grenades or outbursts in some sections of the media.

We will not be cowed by such cowardly actions.
We have come a long way; we have travelled and survived a perilous path that few would have stomached, so a bunch of homicidal lunatics cannot cow us nor reroute us from the path of rebuilding one Rwanda.

We are full of HOPE, ESPOIR, ICYIZERE, that in the same manner we are used to treat challenges, We Shall Overcome.
