Talented athletics in remote areas will have a chance to become national stars through winning the national championship preliminaries at the district level and the national finals.

This was said by Jean Paul Munyandamutsa, RAF president and Mayor of Kamonyi district, while commenting on the upcoming November 3-4 preliminaries of the national championship scheduled to take place from the Sector level, to the District up to the Provincial and national level.

At the Provincial level the championship will run for two days from November 10-11 bringing together all winners from respective districts in a national championship qualifier.

Athletics will compete from 100m to 15000m, short put, Javelin, discus as well as long and high jumping.

‘We are expecting to tap many talented athletics from different remote areas in different institutions,’ Munyangoga said, adding that the trend will set up a rotational and consistent national team and stop the reliance on old athletics.

 He added, ‘This is partly to develop a national team based on the best talented athletics from the grassroots level and to have more stake holders in the sport.’

From the National Police, the Military and the Schools, said the RAF head, will come good athletics since the three institutions are characterised by many youths with a unique talents in athletics.

Munyandamutsa urged sponsors to take fully maximize the advantages that come with being associated with sports.

The events at the districts and provincial levels will be facilitated by Rheinane Palatina with Rwanda Athletics Federation providing the technical assistance.
