Thursday, August 26, 2021

A total of 9,050 students from the University of Rwanda's six colleges are set to graduate on Friday, August 27 in an event that will be held virtually.

This will be the first graduation ceremony in two years since the 2019 graduation, due to interruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The graduates will be from the six constituent colleges including; College of Arts and Social Sciences, College of Agriculture, Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, College of Business and Economics, College of Medicine and Health Science, College of Education, College of Science and Technology.

According to Ignatius Kabagambe, the University of Rwanda's head of corporate communications, the graduation event will largely be held virtually with just over 100 people being physically present at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Venue.

The graduation event will be broadcast live from 08:45 am to 10:15 am by Rwanda Broadcasting Agency.

Kabagambe added that in spite of the Covid-19 setbacks, all students with the cohort that was to graduate last year will be able to graduate this year.

"The students were all able to catch up despite the interruptions due to the pandemic, if anyone will not graduate, it has nothing to do with the pandemic collective disruptions,” he said.

He said that among those that will be able to attend the physical function are the best performers in different categories who will be awarded certificates of recognition.

This is the seventh graduation ceremony to be hosted by the university since it was created through a merger of seven public institutions of higher learning.
