IMAGE RWANDA has launched ‘Photography Week’, which will feature different activities such as daily online sessions, studio giveaways, competitions for amateur photographers and other treats for photographers and lovers of photography.

Rwanda Image is a collective of arts which aims to showcase the beauty of Rwanda through portraits. It has different members who contribute by providing artworks that are sold on its website.

The initiative started yesterday August 16 and will end on August 21 according to Jean Luc Habimana, co-founder of Image Rwanda.

"The whole week is not celebrated internationally but we have decided to make it a period of activities that prepares the world photography day which is 19 May,” Habimana told The New Times.

"During this week we have organised the photography competitions where different photographers will showcase their pictures and the best will get surprise prizes at the end of this week which involves traveling and objectives that facilitate the photography industry,” he added.

Habimana further explained other activities which will happen during the photography week.

"Among other activities, we are having session’s everyday on different platforms such as Instagram, Clubhouse and zoom. The first session is about women in photography with Cynthia Butare as our guest,” he said.

"Another activity is the studio giveaway this whole week in our physical studio. Photographers are able to book and come make their projects in our studio for free. Image Rwanda is also running some campaigns which engage photographers and photography lovers alongside media tours on TVs. Our main aim is to see photography making noise this week,” said Habimana.

Image Rwanda has also launched a challenge of posting best images on Instagram to exhibit the beauty of Rwanda, not only photographers, but also other individuals who are exposed to photography.

It was founded by both Jean Luc Habimana and Innocent Ishimwe in 2017. Image Rwanda has more than 100 contributors on its imagery stock who make different types of photography and designs.

The final day of the Photography will see the grand opening of ‘The Creative Corner’, in Musanze.
