Wanderlust: The whys and wherefores of travel
Thursday, July 29, 2021

Whereas the tourist generally hurries back home at the end of a few weeks or months, the traveller belonging no more to one place than to the next, moves slowly over periods of years, from one part of the earth to another.

Indeed, he would have found it difficult to tell, among the many places he had lived, precisely where it was, he had felt most at home, wrote American composer Paul Bowles.

Travelling comes with a dynamic lifestyle, experiencing beautiful destinations and an endless stun of outdoor adventures.

Why travel around the world?

Perspective

They say, when a person travels to new places and experiences new environments and culture, they are given chance to perceive life in a new way. They rediscover who they are and how they spend their time. These new places help you learn and gain information about things you wouldn’t otherwise have known.

Sense of accomplishment

Travelling gives you a sense of achievement. Travelling, as one of the most exciting and memorable things you can do in your life, can also come with anxiety—backpacking and moving around a country you neither know, nor speak their language, can truly be scary. But overcoming this fear, and doing this nonetheless, can leave you with an unrivalled sense of success and achievement.

Appreciate life

There is so much to see and experience in life. But seeing it requires that you dare yourself to go out there and experience the world for what it is. When you go out there and experience the natural and all the other wonders of the world, this pushes you to appreciate life for what it is.

Have fun

Travelling is one of the best ways of living an expansive and rewarding life. Sir Richard Burton, a British explorer, scholar and soldier said, of the gladdest moments in human life, methinks, is the departure upon a distant journey into unknown lands. Shaking off with one mighty effort the fetters of habit, the leaden weight of routine, the cloak of many cares and the slavery of civilisation, man feels once more happy.

When you travel, you get a chance to get away from the worries of your life, even if it’s just for a moment.

Step out of your comfort zone

When you travel, you are thrust into a completely new environment, a completely different world that requires you to open yourself up to new challenges and learning experiences. In the process, you gradually let go of what you know and embrace what the world has in store for you.

Connect with people

Breaking routine and allowing yourself to meet people from diverse cultures gives you skill to be able to connect with different people. When you travel, you meet new people, experience varied cultures and new things. As you travel, you get a chance to learn more about what connects the human race-love, you learn about connectedness and empathy.

Appreciate nature

There is no better way to connect with nature than travel. Choosing to spend time outdoors is the perfect way of escaping the busy and often fast-paced world we usually get caught up in. As one travels, they get a chance to enjoy the spectacular natural wonders of this world, which can both fascinate and educate you.
