Jean-Claude Rugamba, commonly known as DJ Caspi, will be competing for one on one with seven other African DJs live on TV5 Monde.
DJ Caspi hosts a music show on Flash Radio and Television left Kigali on June 24 for Côte d'Ivoire for the show dubbed ‘DJ Battle Africa.’
According to the entertainer, the competition started on Saturday, June 26, and all the DJs must play only African music during their battle.
"This competition comes for the second time since it took place in 2020. There will be no voting but we will be judged by the selected judges. The awards will be given to two winners, where the first winner gets $3,000,” he said.
Rugamba also told The New Times that he did not apply to be part of the competition. They texted him about the battle and he went for it since it is what he does daily.
Other DJs nominated for the competition include Deejay Goleme (DRC), Deejay Animal (Sao Tome and Principe), Deejay Chris (Gabon), Deejay Styvo (Cameroon), Deejay Alida (Burundi), Deejay Youss (Equatorial Guinea), and DJ Fina (Chad).
"It is an opportunity for me to showcase my potential and meet other DJs from across Africa. I am going to give it all that I got and enjoy every moment of the process. I have no doubt that it will be a great experience as I will be doing what I love the most and I hope that with God, I can make it to the first place and raise my country’s flag in the DJs industry," added Rugamba.
He will return to Kigali from the competition on July 1.
