This year's edition of the Genocide Memorial Volleyball Tournament starts today June 25 at National Paralympics Committee gymnasium in Remera, with UTB men’s team and Kirehe volleyball clubs tussling it out in the opening match.

Kick-off is at 1pm, according to the organisers.

Also in the men’s category, defending champions Rwanda Energy Group (REG) will face former champions Gisagara VC in the much-anticipated game slated to begin at 3pm, from the same venue.

The tournament, which features both men and women categories, will run through June 27.

Since 1995, Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) has consistently organized the annual tournaments in honour of the players and lovers of the game who were killed during the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Volleyball Club from Kenya is the only foreign team that will participate in the tournament that has in total attracted seven teams in the men's category.

In the women's category there are six teams including the national under-20 team which is preparing for the world championships slated for next month in The Netherlands.
