It’s not fun being cooped up because of self-isolation and social distancing, but as the world continues to fight the scourge of Covid-19, it’s important to stay safe indoors to protect ourselves and others – but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a good time.

Life is always fun if you choose to do some things differently. Besides binge-watching movies and social media, there is just a lot more fun once you widen your mind to learn new activities or contemplate on fresh ideas.

Being stuck at home isn't ideal, but here are ways to making indoors just a little bit more fun

Bubble baths

Debby Umutoni, a resident of Gikondo says she enjoys relaxing especially after a long day, and believes in bringing the spa at home. She soaks herself in the bathtub with essential oils, soft music playing in the background, and candle lights, just to create the ambience. This, for her, therapeutic and relaxing.

If you need to try a bubble bath but lack any idea how to, Healthline, a source for expert health guidance,

states that bubble bath recipes are centered on the same core ingredients like water, soap

glycerin or coconut oil. However, you need the approximate measurements, for instance,

a quarter cup of warm, distilled water, half a cup of liquid soap, and a quarter of a cup of glycerin or coconut oil and mix all the three to create your own concoction. Coconut oil is a good replacement to moisturize the skin.

After her bubble bath, Umutoni does her pedicure, since her feet are already soaked up, she gets rid of the dead skin off her feet, trims and shapes her nails and applies vanish. For her, learning how to do such small things for yourself is not only fun but also saves one money spent on salons.

Baking

She also developed a new hobby during the lockdown, and that’s baking, a skill she learned through YouTube tutorials. It's now one year and some months but the results are worth it.

For her, cakes are some of the easy snacks to have at home, anytime.

She says baking is a fun activity if someone has enough time, and what is necessary is mastering the measurements of the ingredients to use, and the oven does the last magic.

Reading books

Whether its fictional or non-fictional, books are known to be a source of knowledge. Some experts say that books don’t only strengthen the brain, they increase empathy, build the vocabulary and are also a remedy for stress, aid sleep and increase the lifespan. Whatever your preferred genre is, books create a whole mood and vibe depending on your topic of interest.

Books can guide you on how to work out your marriage, start up a business, and handle any other issue. How about entering this weekend with a copy?

Karaoke

Ben Kalisa discovered a cure to his boredom. Since he stays with two housemates, during weekends, the three, residents of Kimironko, organise karaoke nights in their living room with a low volume so as not to inconvenience their neighbors.

Guided by lyrics on their television, hey sing along while holding microphones, and dancing. Each of them has a chance of leading any song of their choice. They say, that’s how they relieve stress after a long week.

According to the three bachelors, karaoke is a little more fun when connected to a sound system with dim colored lights in the background.

Games

Kalisa and his housemate avoid using phones excessively while at home, just to socialize with each other. They have a number of games they play, such as cards, Ludo, and Monopoly—a thing that keeps them lightened up.

Exercise

Some health experts advise cutting some fat and keeping fit as one of the steps to a healthy lifestyle. Even at the comfort of your home, doctors advise stretching, squats, push-ups, which can be guided through various health websites and YouTube channels.
