The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. Vincent Biruta on Monday welcomed, at his office, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for African Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Kattan, who is on an official visit to the country.

"The two ministers discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations and signed a General Cooperation Agreement,” reads a tweet from the foreign ministry.

In a series of tweets, the officials said they had a ‘fruitful’ meeting, with both pointing to strengthening bilateral relations between the countries.

"A fruitful meeting I held today with His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Rwanda where we discussed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance and develop them in various fields,” Kattan tweeted.

He went on: "In addition to discussing opportunities to enhance economic and investment cooperation to serve the interests of the two friendly countries.”

Rwanda and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have enjoyed good cooperation in areas of health, education, energy and infrastructure development.

Other areas of shared business opportunities exist in technology, financial sector, tourism development, trade and investment among others.

The Saudi minister’s visit follows the presentation of letters of credence by the new ambassador to the Gulf nation to Rwanda.

Ambassador Jamal M.H Al-Madani presented his letters to President Paul Kagame on Monday in a ceremony that was held at Village Urugwiro.
