KAYONZA — The Kayonza district Mayor, Damas Muhororo has revealed that local authorities have instituted  adequate  measures to ensure security of people, especially Genocide survivors, during the week to commemorate the 1994  Genocide against Tutsis.

In an interview with The New Times Thursday, Muhororo said that there was likelihood certain sections of the citizens were bound to threaten others an act he termed usunacceptable by the leadership.

"As a result we have put measures that will tighten the security of people, especially Genocide survivors since there are normally acts of insecurity during the week”, he noted.

He further revealed that this year’s week-long commemoration will be held at Cell level all over the country so as to involve greater participation from the citizens.

He said that Kayonza district leadership will work closely with community policing apparatus to ensure that survivors in all sectors are secure.

The Acting Commissioner General of the Rwanda National Police, Mary Gahonzire, also warned against the problem of revisionism.

She reiterated the need for developing counter measures to check against such incidences. Gahonzire asked the police to be more vigilant at this period the of commemoration. She reminded citizens against engaging in leisurely activities during the period.
