BRUSSELS - Foreign Affairs Minister Rosemary Museminali Wednesday held talks with delegations of political groups in the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.

According to a communiqué from the ministry, Museminali met Pasquelina Napoletano’s Socialist group, Jurgen Schroder’s Christian Democrats, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats as well as the Green Party.

"The Minister is in Brussels at the invitation of the European Parliament. The talks revolved around relations and inter-parliamentary cooperation between Rwanda and various European countries, relations which should be based on mutual interests and respect,” reads part of the communiqué.

"She also discussed with these political groups and their delegations the evolving security situation in the Great Lakes region.”

Reportedly, Museminali called upon the EP and the international community to contribute towards sustaining the achievements of operation Umoja Wetu – the recently concluded joint Rwanda-DRC military operations.

The operations were aimed at routing rebels of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) considered by both governments as the root cause of the region’s insecurity.

"She demonstrated to them how European countries are wrongly politicising justice by issuing indictments to poor countries,” continued the statement.

Earlier in the day, the Minister held bilateral discussions with her Belgian counterpart, Karel De Gucht and Belgian Minister for Development Cooperation, Charles Michel.
