Kagame promotes police, prisons bosses

President Paul Kagame in his capacity as Commander in Chief of armed forces on Saturday, April 24, promoted in rank the heads of police and prisons services.

In the new promotions announced by justice minister Johnson Busingye, Inspector General of Rwanda National Police Dan Munyuza was promoted to Commissioner-General in Rwanda National Police (RNP).

The two institutions are under the Ministry of Justice.

Prior to his promotion, Munyuza was at the rank of Deputy Commissioner-General.

Kagame also promoted Deputy Commissioner General of RNP Juvenal Marizamunda to Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS).

Marizamunda was until mid this month the Deputy Inspector General of RNP, before he was appointed as head of the prisons body, replacing George Rwigamba.

The promotions also saw Deputy Commissioner General of RCS Chantal Ujeneza promoted to Deputy Commissioner General of RNP.

Ujeneza was deployed to police a fortnight back to replace Marizamunda as Deputy IGP in charge of Finance and Administration.

Before that, she deputised Rwigamba at prisons.

In other promotions, Kagame elevated Commissioner of Police Felix Namuhoranye to Deputy Commissioner General of RNP.

Namuhoranye is currently the Deputy IGP in charge of Operations.
