GICUMBI — A district security meeting that brought together Sector officials this Friday resolved to tighten security during the genocide commemoration period.

The security meeting that convened at Gicumbi district reception hall and chaired by Mayor Bonane Nyangezi reviewed a number of issues apart from security.

Regarding general security at the district participants observed that a number of illegal caps bearing old National flags were being smuggled into the country from neighboring countries with the intention of disrupting genocide memorial period.

"The circulation of these caps in the country is the work of genocide ideology perpetrators bent on creating insecurity and disrupting the genocide commemoration period”, said Mayor Nyangezi while holding one of the illegal caps recently impounded by district security organs.

The participants resolved to advise residents to be vigilant to curb the importers and distributors of these caps in the country.

The meeting also observed that a number of illegal form of worshiping is being carried out during the night hours at a swamp located in Gihembe cell of Kageyo Sector.

The meeting resolved to ban these night prayers with immediate effect and warned those who carry out the practice of stringent legal action.

One of the worshipers at the swamp Didace Muligande, a sector civic education official told The New Times after the meeting that the practice has been going on for the last nine years and that they had not yet been granted legal authority to conduct the prayer sessions.

The Security meeting further recommended night patrols by residents at village and sector levels to curb people bent on causing insecurity.

On key  reforms targeted at the sector units the meeting resolved to empower  local leaders with the task of mobilizing residents to grow crops favored by the district climate to increase agricultural production.

The meeting also resolved to rehabilitate urban centers into  modern towns while seeking to encourage residents to develop a culture of saving to boost their incomes.
