Basketball: Champions Hoops Rwanda appoint Habiyambere as new head coach

Moise Mutokambali has stepped down as head coach of The Hoops Rwanda after guiding them to their maiden league title last season.

Hoops Rwanda, the reigning champions of the BK Women’s Basketball National League, have appointed Patrick Habiyambere as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2020/2021 season.

The 40-year-old replaces Moise Mutokambali who was named the technical director of Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) last month.

Habiyambere, whose appointment was confirmed by club president Eric Dusabimana on Thursday, has served as the team’s assistant coach since 2013.

"The Hoops are delighted to confirm Habiyambere as our team’s head coach, taking over from Mutokambali who took on other responsibilities recently,” said Dusabimana.

The green outfit made history last November when they clinched the 2019/20 title after fighting back to deny IPRC Huye in the final. It was the club’s maiden championship.

Meanwhile, Weekend Sport understands that the club will not take part in the 2021 Fiba Africa Zone V Club Championship despite their league title securing them an automatic ticket.
