A 43-year-old man in Nyakaliro Sector, Rwamagana District, was on Sunday arrested by Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) for allegedly defiling at least 20 boys, some as young as 3 years old.

According to authorities, this happened over a period of less than a year, after the suspect got out of prison, where he had been incarcerated for nine years for the same crime.

According to David Muhigirwa, Executive Secretary of Nyakaliro Sector, the suspect, identified as Alfred Nzishimanumve, lived in Kamashaza Village, Rwimbogo Cell.

This case unfolded when a 13-year-old boy came back home saying that he was feeling too much pain, pointing out that Nzishimanumve had defiled him.

The victim added that there were other boys in the neighbourhood claiming to have been assaulted by the same man, which led to investigations.

It was reported that the suspect lured younger boys using sweet bananas and avocados, while he used money for the older boys. The oldest of his alleged victims was 18.

"When the 13-year-old boy came from the man's house, he said he was feeling a lot of pain, that he had been sexually assaulted. He also added that there are other children who experienced the same," Muhigirwa said.

The suspect accepts that he committed the alleged crime, according to Muhigirwa.

He added that the suspect hails from Kabuga town in Rusororo Sector, but on his return from jail, he went to live with his elder brother who lived in Nyakaliro.

The suspect Nzishimanumve is currently in custody of RIB Karenge Station, in Rwamagana District as investigations continue.
