Rwanda on Tuesday, February 2, reported 229 new cases, making it the highest number reported in the past two days.

The cases were reported from 4,257 tests that were carried out on the same day.

Just like the past few weeks, Kigali city remains a leading hotspot for the pandemic with 57 of the new cases registered.

To contain the spread of the virus in the area, the government imposed strict restrictions including a lockdown that will last up to February 8.

On the same day, seven patients succumbed to the virus that has already claimed 205 lives since mid-March.

According to the Ministry of Health, only four districts across the country didn’t confirm a new case on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, considering the update, 473 Covid-19 patients recovered from the virus, while a total of 19 patients remain in critical condition.

With a total number of 15,668 cases confirmed since the virus hit the country, Rwanda currently stands at a 5.4 per cent test positivity rate and a 68.4 per cent recovery rate.
