Rwandan defender, Abdul Rwatubyaye, has joined Macedonian side FC Shkupi on a 6 month deal.

The 24-year-old joins the Macedonian outfit from Switchbacks in the USL Championship, the second tier soccer League in the USA.

Rwatubyaye's contract with the US-based side expired recently, and he decided to take on a new challenge.

In an exclusive interview, Rwatubyaye told Times Sport on Saturday, January 23, that he has already signed a six-month contract with FC Shkupi in Macedonia.

"We have agreed on a six month deal which will be extended depending on my performance," he said.

In 2019, Rwatubyaye made history as the first Rwandan to play in the Major Soccer League (MLS), the toplight league in the USA, when he was signed by Kansas KC from Rayon Sports.

He started his career in 2009 from the APR academy and also played for the U-17, U-20, U-23 national teams.

His new team FC SHKUPI are in 2nd place in the Macedonian Championship after 18 games.

KF Shkupi is a professional football club based in Čair, North Macedonia. The club plays in the Macedonian First Football League, which is the top flight league in the country.
