Covid-19: Rwanda records 289 new cases

On Tuesday, January 19, Rwanda reported 289 new cases of Covid-19,  and 114 of these were from Kigali.

The city has for some time become a hotspot for the virus, something that compelled the government to place it under a 15-day lockdown.

According to the daily update from the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, other districts also recorded cases.

Among these, Ngoma district followed Kigali with 79 new cases; Gicumbi 15, Gatsibo 14, Karongi 13, Nyagatare 11, Muhanga 8, Rulindo 8; Huye 7; Rubavu 6, Kirehe 3, Musanze 3, Nyamagabe 2,  Rwamagana 2, Nyaruguru 1, Nyabihu  1; Gisagara 1 and Ruhango also had one case.

The total number of confirmed cases in the country is now 11,548. Of these 7,580 have recovered, while 3,820 are still active cases.

On Tuesday, 168 people were reported to have recovered from the virus.

Two deaths related to the virus were reported on the same day, taking the total number of such deaths to 148.

The deceased were identified as two women: a 75-year old from Nyabihu, and a 63-year-old from Musanze.
