Covid-19: Rwanda records 277 new infections

Cases of new Covid-19 infections have continued to rise in Rwanda as the country recorded 277 confirmed positive cases on Saturday, January 16. For a second consecutive day, the number of cases reported has been above 250. 

On Friday, January 15, 257 cases had been reported from different parts of the country. With such daily figures, the total number of confirmed infections in the country since March when the first case was reported on Rwanda's territory is 10,850. Saturday's cases were detected from 6,423 tests done on the day. Currently, Rwanda has done a total of 791,472 Covid-19 tests. The City of Kigali has continued to lead in having new daily infections. Out of the 257 cases reported in Rwanda on Saturday, Kigali had 139;  Ngoma followed with 22; Kirehe with 19; Rulindo with 18; Huye with 15; Gicumbi with 12; Gisagara with 12 too; Nyamasheke with 7; Musanze with 7 too; and Muhanga with 5. More infections were registered in Rwamagana (4); Nyanza 4;  Rubavu 4; Gakenke 3; Nyamagabe 2; Karongi 2; and Nyagatare 2. Two new Covid-19 related death cases were registered on Saturday, taking the total of such deaths to 140 in the country. The Ministry of Health said the 2 deceased were a 66-year-old man from Kigali, and a 27-year-old man from Huye.
