On Tuesday, January 5, five people succumbed to Covid-19 in Rwanda and 107 others tested positive for the virus.

All the deceased were men whose age range between 45 and 69.

Currently, the Covid-19 death toll stands at 110, whereas the total number of Covid-19 confirmed cases is 8,955. Of these cases, 6,878 have already recovered.

According to the Ministry of Health, of the new infections, 44 were reported in Kigali, 20 in Bugesera district, 17 in Musanze district, 7 in Huye district, five in Rusizi district, one in Nyanza district, and three in Nyamasheke district among others.

Meanwhile, Rubavu, Nyamagabe, Muhanga, Ruhango and Kamonyi districts confirmed two cases each.

The results were obtained from 4,216 Covid-19 sample tests taken in the last 24 hours.

In total, 745, 252 tests have been conducted in Rwanda.

Meanwhile, as Covid-19 infections and fatalities surge country-wide, all business operations, including restaurants, shops, markets and malls, are effective January 5, closing operations at 6:00 PM.

This, according to officials, is part of efforts to slow the spread of new Covid-19 infections in the country.
