Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) in partnership with Kigali International Airport has established a new Covid-19 testing centre at the airport to ensure all arriving passengers are tested from the premise.

According to RBC, the testing centre which is set to open its services on Tuesday, December 15, will centralize the energy of the exercise dispatched at different transit hotels to reinforce them in one place.

"Currently we test arriving passengers from their different transit hotels, but we are going to make sure everyone is tested immediately on arrival at the airport so as to make the testing exercise more feasible and effective”, said Julien Mahoro Niyingabira, the Director of Media Relations at RBC.

After testing, the passengers will wait for the results in the transit hotels within twenty-four hours during which they will have received their results from the National Reference Laboratory.

The development comes after the country has of recent had an upsurge in Covid-19 cases which has led to officials warning the population against complacency.

Already, the national football league has been suspended due to the virus, while other national events like the National Dialogue (Umushyikirano) which is slated for this week is also likely to be affected.
