Rwanda registers 131 new Covid-19 cases, highest since September

131 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Rwanda on Sunday, December 13, raising the tally of the country’s positive cases to 6,659.

This is the highest daily infections reported in Rwanda since the beginning of September this year. The last time Rwanda had more than this number was in August when the country confirmed 177 cases in a single day.

According to the Ministry of Health, of the new cases reported on Sunday, 84 were identified in Kigali among passengers from abroad who were isolated upon arrival, and people who were preparing to attend wedding.

Other Covid-19 infections were detected in Musanze where 20 people tested positive for the virus, whereas Rubavu and Nyabihu districts confirmed 11 and four cases respectively.

Gakenke, Kayonza and Kirehe districts also confirmed three new Covid-19 infections each. Nyagatare, Gatsibo and Rwamagana districts reported a single case each.

The results were obtained from 2,444 Covid-19 sample tests collected in the last 24 hours.

So far the country’s Covid-19 death toll stands at 56. Rwanda currently has 648 active cases of Covid-19.

As the country continues experiencing an upsurge in the daily cases of Covid-19 and fatalities, the government lately called for hightened vigilance, especially during the upcoming festive season.
