NORTHERN PROVINCE

GICUMBI — Representatives of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), hailing from all Sectors of Gicumbi district were on Saturday called upon to spearhead unity among the citizens. The call was made by PSD member of parliament  Jean Damascene Gasarabwe at Byumba Obex bar and restaurant.

"Previous regimes preached the gospel of divisionism of Rwandans based on ethnic and religious lines not forgetting nepotism, which resulted in underdevelopment of the country as well as the 1994 Rwandan genocide”, said Gasarabwe.

He castigated Rwandan colonial masters for their role in applying the divide and rule policy "Before colonialism, Rwandans were united under a single culture and  religion and fought their enemies alongside each other, regardless of ethnic differences”, added Gasarabwe. Regarding corruption, Gasarabwe urged PSD supporters to desist from all forms of corruption.

"Corruption is a sign of bad governance”, he said.

Present during the meeting was the chairman of PSD in Nyamasheke district John Hakizimana who called on their supporters to work hand in hand with other political parties for the sake of development for all Rwandans.

"You should respect government agricultural reform policies which are geared towards  increasing production,” said Hakizimana.

He further encouraged PSD supporters to form cooperative societies to boost their financial resources for the purposes of expanding their development projects.
