Basketball: Serbian Bosnjak steps down as national team coach
Thursday, December 03, 2020
Vladimir Bosnjak was in charge of the national basketball team since mid-2018.

Vladimir Bosnjak has resigned from his position as the head coach of the national basketball effective immediately, the local basketball body (Ferwaba) announced on Thursday.

The Serbian tactician stepped down following Rwanda’s poor run of results having failed to win a single game at the just concluded qualifiers for the African Basketball Championships (Afrobasket) 2021 finals in Kigali.

The hosts lost all their Group D games against Mali, Nigeria and South Sudan.

According to a statement from Ferwaba, assistant coach Henry Mwinuka will serve as interim coach and will be assisted by Aime Karim Nkusi.

Rwanda will host the 2021 Afrobasket finals tournament in August 2021, becoming the first Eastern Africa country to host Africa’s biggest basketball event since 1993 when it was held in Kenya.
