This means that the president-elect will immediately be granted access to top security briefings, office space and government officials as he prepares to take office next year, January 20.

A statement from the president elect’s team indicates that Biden will begin to appoint candidates for top jobs in the incoming cabinet.

"Today's decision is a needed step to begin tackling the challenges facing our nation, including getting the pandemic under control and our economy back on track," reads part of the statement.

Earlier, Biden unveiled his nominations for his foreign policy and national security team.

Democratic challenger Joe Biden was on November 7 declared US president-elect after securing the 270 electoral votes required to win the presidency, ending Donald Trump’s four-year presidency in the White House.
