Mugisha wins stage one of Grand Prix Chantal Biya cycling tour

Team Rwanda Cyclist Moïse Mugisha on Wednesday, November 18 2020 won the first stage of the Grand Prix Chantal Biya cycling race in Cameroon.

The 22-year old used 2 hours, 15minutes and 41 seconds to cover the 92km race in Douala and was given the yellow jersey which he will don during stage two on Thursday.

"I am proud to emerge the winner of the first stage because the road was narrow and had sharp corners. I followed the coach’s advice to start on the front foot and work as a team if we were going to have any chance of one of us emerging victorious,” Mugisha said.

The other team Rwanda riders didn’t register good performances with Didier Munyaneza finishing in 7th place, Renus Uhiriwe Byiza settled for 8th place, while Samuel Mugisha came in 10 position.

Star rider Joseph Areruya was 13 while Patrick Byukusenge performed poorly, finishing 31st.

Tomorrow represents the first major day in the general classification battle, as the riders race a distance of 139.5Km from Akonolinga to Abang-Mbang.
