Bank of Kigali’s data systems failure hamper services
Tuesday, November 17, 2020

A number of Bank of Kigali’s services have been unavailable beginning the weekend leaving thousands of clients stranded or seeking alternatives.

The Bank has explained the challenge as resulting from a power incident on the primary data centre which led to equipment failure and multi-service failure.

The bank managed to recover their core banking service but some services and channels such as push and pull remain unavailable.

In a statement by the bank’s management, the equipment failure has hindered the ability to speed up recovery process.

"Our focus has been to ensure that customers have access to their accounts and we are able to utilize our disaster recovery site to avail the critical services to clients, branches, agency banking, ATMs and POS are operating,” the statement read in part.

The bank noted that their teams are in the process to ensure that the services are back up and are stable.

The incident comes at a time when a majority of clients and users have been adopting digital payment avenues which are largely dependent on data systems and servers.

Bank of Kigali is among the top banks with regard to clientele with over 400,000 clients as of last year July. The bank also has an expansive reach across the country which has increased uptake of both corporate and individual users.

Clients or concerned parties with questions or concerns can reach the bank via their call centre on 4455.
