Nine Covid-19 infections detected in refugee camp as active cases drop

Rwanda on Friday, October 16, reported 12 new Covid-19 cases, of whom 9 were identified in Kiziba Refugee Camp located in Karongi District, Western Province.

Three cases were also detected in Kigali.

The new cluster was discovered on Wednesday, whereby 26 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Mahama Refugee Camp in Kirehe district.

11 more cases were also reported on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the country announced the recovery of 63 people on Thursday.

The latest results obtained from 3,450 sample tests taken in the last 24 hours brought the tally of Covid-19 active cases down to 267, as a result of consistent hundreds of daily recoveries.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in Rwanda by mid-March, the country has confirmed a total of 4,965 Covid-19 cases of whom 4,664 have already recovered.

Concerning testing, in total, Rwanda has carried out 530,304 tests of Covid-19.
