The new coronavirus outbreaks led to people coming up with creative ways to do things, including taking what would have been real events or activities to digital platforms at the time when gatherings are not permitted.

It is only fair to say that Iwacu Muzika festival this year proved to be among the most innovative events, with organisers opting to host the event on Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) -a total of 15 shows dubbed #SusurukiraMuRugo, turning out to be the most sought-after weekend show to watch.

This weekend, gospel singer Israel Mbonyi arguably delivered the best performance at this year’s virtual Iwacu Muzika Festival, giving the annual music festival a befitting end.

Real name Israel Mbonyicyambu, the gospel artiste was clad in a white t-shirt, brown jacket, black jeans and shoes.

Different from last year’s performances that attracted crowds, this time, Iwacu Muzika festival’s audience were people watching from the comfort of their homes, to adhere to the government’s directives that among other things restrict large gatherings in bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Mbonyi’s fans and those who admire local music expected a good take away, as this year’s three-month-long Iwacu Muzika Festival reached at its peak, after 15 impressive concerts by both renowned artistes and upcoming talent groomed through ArtRwanda- Ubuhanzi, in their different categories.

Mbonyi was preceded on stage by singer Christian Bukuru and painter Diane Hirwa- upcoming talents who were identified and are being supported by the talent search programme which wants to give them wider exposure, as part of efforts to uplift Rwanda’s art and creative industry.

The gospel music star kicked-off his performance with his worship song ‘Anyemeza’, before embarking on ‘Karame’ that reminds one’s heart of God’s goodness and hence sing songs of praise unto Him.

As always, Mbonyi had his acoustic guitar that accompanied other musical instruments of his band.

He went on to sing his other famous songs such as ‘Sinzibagirwa’, ‘Nturi wenyine’, and ‘Nzi ibyo nibwira’.

The artist and songwriter ended the performance with his danceable popular song ‘Hari ubuzima’ that communicates hope to those feeling helpless, emphasizing that there is a better life ahead.

His dance moves as he performed the final song also made the performance memorable.

After the event, many people took to Twitter among other social media platforms to convey their feedback on the performance.

"This is was indeed a great show! Israel Mbonyi, thank you for blessing us this evening,” Henriette Cyuzuzo tweeted.

In a tweet, Gaelle Gisubizo also noted: "This is the best show of EAP Rwanda (organizers of Iwacu Muzika), since day one Israel Mbonyi is my favorite and never disappoint, may God always bless his work.”

Mbonyi has so far released two albums whose songs were all hits, and he is expected to release the third one titled ‘Urwandiko’ this coming week.

This year’s Iwacu Muzika attracted many performers including Bruce Melodie, Social Mulla, Christopher, Knowless Butera, Queen Cha, Intore Masamba, Abdoul Makanyaga, Charly na Nina, Patient Bizimana, Yvan Buravan, Clarisse Karasira and Jay Polly, among others.
