Uganda’s Gen. Muhoozi back in Rwanda on private visit
Saturday, October 15, 2022

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Ugandan senior presidential advisor for special operations, is back in Kigali on a private visit, according to reports.

This is also his first visit after being promoted to the rank of General, the highest rank in the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), and dropped as commander of Land Forces by President Yoweri Museveni.

Uganda’s first son last visited Rwanda in March 2022, where he met President Paul Kagame to further efforts to mend ties between the two countries.

Rwanda and Uganda’s relations have started blossoming as the borders between the two countries were re-opened in late January 2022, following Kainerugaba’s visit that laid the first stone for restoring bilateral ties.

The borders were closed in 2018 following a number of grievances by Rwanda that Uganda had failed to address.

The restored relations also allowed trade between the two neighbouring countries to resume, of which before the disputes, it had hit a record level of $200million.
