Rwanda international Ally Niyonzima was the lone scorer as his side Azam FC registered a 1-0 win over struggling Mbeya City in the Tanzania Premier League on Sunday.

Niyonzima made the all-important difference in the 25th minute with a powerful header from a corner that was delivered by Zimbabwean Never Tigere.

A crowded Mbeya City box did not deny the former Rayon Sports star – who was a Simba and Yanga SC transfer target – a chance to score his maiden goal for the former Tanzania champions.

Azam, who top the table with a maximum 9 points after three-match rounds, face Tanzania Prisons in their next fixture on September 26 before taking on Kagera Sugar on October 4.
