Vladimir Bosnjak, head coach of the men’s national basketball team, has said that the resumption of the league would be good news for his endeavours to prepare his team for the upcoming Afrobasket qualifiers.

Scheduled to take place in November, at Kigali Arena, qualifiers for the 2021 African Basketball Championships (Afrobasket) will bring together 12 African nations grouped under three pools of four.

Rwanda was initially supposed to host only Group D before two more groups (A and B) were added last week.

Speaking to Times Sport about Rwanda's preparations, Vladimir noted that the resumption of the domestic league – which has been suspended since March – would be good to assess how quickly the players are getting back to shape.

"Every game and performance is better than no games at all," he said.

"The restart of the league would give us a chance to see how the players’ physical fitness and how they smoothly get back to basketball shape," he added.

The local basketball governing body, Ferwaba, announced last week that the league, if approved by the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Health, will resume on October 18.
