Covid-19: Recoveries surpass active cases again as one dies

Rwanda's Covid-19 recoveries have once again surpassed the number of active cases for the first time in days after 92 patients recovered from the pandemic on Thursday. 

According to a daily status update from the ministry of health, the country recorded 37 new cases on the same day.

This brought the figure to Updated to 2,163 patients who have fully recovered from the virus against 2,074 active cases.  

The new cases were, according to the Ministry of Health, recorded in Kigali and seven different districts across the country. 

They include 23 from Kigali, mainly from contacts made in Kigali market clusters, four from Rusizi District three in Gisagara, two Gakenke and one each from Nyabihu, Kamonyi, Nyanza, Musanze and Rubavu districts. 

Meanwhile, the country also recorded a new Covid-19 death, after a 31-year-old man passed away in Kigali.

This brought the death toll to 18 since the first case of the pandemic was first recorded in Rwanda in mid-March. 

So far, the death rate of the pandemic stands at 0.4 per cent against 0.7 per cent of test positivity rate, according to the health ministry.

Thursday's results were obtained from 5,079 sample tests made across the country in the last 24 hours.  

In total, the country has carried out 426,200 sample tests, of which 4,255 were positive.
