Covid-19: Rwanda’s tally of active cases surpass recoveries

After months of registering more Covid-19 recoveries than active cases, on Saturday, August 29, Rwanda reported 101 new Covid-19 cases and 39 recoveries, raising the tally of active positive cases to 1,923 against 1,904 recoveries.

Of the new cases, according to the Ministry of Health, 65 were detected in the Kigali markets cluster which consists mainly of Nyabugogo and Nyarugenge markets.

Both markets were temporarily closed last week following an upsurge in cases that were traced there.

Rusizi district also reported 27 new cases detected among the district’s high-risk groups, while Rubavu district also confirmed four new positive cases.

Gisagara and Muhanga districts in the Southern Province also reported three cases and one case respectively.

The remaining new Covid-19 case was identified in Karongi district, Western Province.

The latest results were obtained from 6,163 sample tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

In total, the country has carried out 399,400 sample tests since the outbreak of the pandemic in Rwanda in mid-March.

The Covid-19 death toll in the country so far stands at 16 people.
