Covid-19: Rwanda's death toll rises to 15, as 231 new cases are registered

So far, the majority of people who died from the virus in Rwanda are old people and those with underlying health conditions.

Another person succumbed to Covid-19 in Rwanda on Tuesday, August 25, raising the tally of Covid-19 deaths to 15 people since mid-March when the pandemic was confirmed in the country.

However, the Ministry of Health did not give any information on the deceased, apart from announcing that a new death was recorded on Tuesday.

So far, the majority of people who died from the virus in Rwanda are old people and those with underlying health conditions.

Both groups of people, according to Global health authorities, are at high risks of contracting and dying from the Virus due to their weak immune system.

However, still, everyone is urged to adhere to set precautionary measures of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, 231 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the country.

According to the Ministry of Health, of the new cases, 196 were detected among traders that used to work in Kigali's markets before some of them were closed.

Also, 30 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Rusizi District's high risk groups.

Rubavu also reported three new Covid-19 cases, whereas Huye and Gatsibo districts reported a single case each.

The new results were obtained from 6,128sample tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

The latest number of daily cases is currently the highest to be recorded in a single day, and follows a record of 217 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths reported on Monday.

Meanwhile, according to Tuesday’s Covid-19 update, 21 people recovered from the pandemic.

So far, the country reported a total of 3,537 Covid-19 cases since mid-March. Of these, 1, 806 have already recovered.

As has been the case since the outbreak of the pandemic, in bid to prevent the spread of Covid-19, citizens are urged to adhere to set Covid-19 precautionary measures that among others include physical distancing, wearing of face masks while in public, washing hands regularly and avoiding unnecessary movements.
