Monday, August 24, marked another tragic day to Rwanda vis-à-vis Covid-19, as the country confirmed 217 new Covid-19 cases and announced the death of two people who succumbed to the pandemic.

According to the Ministry of Health, the deceased were Rwandans aged 64 and 70 years.

This raised the Covid-19 death toll to 14 people registered since mid-March when the pandemic was confirmed in the country.

Concerning the new reported cases, the Ministry of Health said that of the tally, 202 cases were identified in Kigali markets.

Also, 10 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Rusizi district whereas Nyamasheke, Kamonyi and Nyanza districts reported a single case each.

The latest number of daily cases is currently the highest to be recorded in a single day, and follows a record of 200 new Covid-19 cases and one death reported on Sunday.

Meanwhile, according to Monday’s Covid-19 update, 30 people recovered from the pandemic.

So far, the country reported a total of 3,306 Covid-19 cases since mid-March. Of these, 1, 785 have already recovered.

As has been the case since the outbreak of the pandemic, in bid to prevent the spread of Covid-19, citizens are urged to adhere to set Covid-19 precautionary measures that among others include physical distancing, wearing of face masks while in public, washing hands regularly and avoiding unnecessary movements.
