Covid-19: Rwanda records highest daily cases

Rwanda on Saturday, August 22, reported 109 new Covid-19 cases- the highest since mid-March when the pandemic was first confirmed in the country.

According to the latest update from the Ministry of Health, Kigali remains a hotspot for the pandemic.

As has been since the start of this week, Kigali markets owned the highest percentage of the new cases, with 81 people testing positive of the pandemic.

Also, Rusizi district reported 24 Covid-19 cases detected in high-risk groups of the district.

Huye and Nyamasheke districts also confirmed three cases and one case respectively.

On the same day, the ministry announced that 42 people had recovered from Covid-19, raising the tally of recovered cases to 1,754.

The latest results were obtained from 4,759 sample tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

In total, Rwanda carried out 361,842 tests since mid-March.

So far, the toll of Covid-19 confirmed cases stands at 2,889 while 11 people have succumbed to the pandemic so far.
