APR football club have appointed Argentine Pablo Morchon as their new assistant coach for the 2020/21 season.

Morchon comes in to fill the void left by Moroccan Nabyl Bekroui who parted ways with the club last month after serving out his one-year contract with the club. 

Morchon, 45, brings a lot of experience at APR having previously held roles in the technical departments of major clubs including South American giants Bocca Juniors and Belgian side Anderlecht.

In an exclusive interview with Times Sport on Saturday, APR Secretary General, Lt. Col. Sylvestre Sekaramba, revealed that Morchon arrived in the country on Friday night, and was under a mandatory two-day quarantine as part of the measures to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

According to Sekaramba, the appointment of Morchon was mostly informed by the knowledge of head coach Adil Erradi.

"It is within his (Erradi’s) responsibilities to choose an assistant whom he wishes to work with. He is the one who makes the research about him, endorses him, and also agrees with him about the plan and strategy of taking the club forward,” he said.

Morchon joins Erradi for a daring task of leading APR to the lustrous group stage of the CAF Champions League, a level no Rwandan side has ever achieved in the continent’s premier club competition.

Meanwhile, Erradi’s current contract with the army runs until the 2021/22 season after he was offered a two-year extension last month. In May, he guided APR to a record-extending 18th league title unbeaten.
