COLLAPSE OF BRUGUIERE CASE IS INNEVITABLE

Reports that the case built by a former French Magistrate, one Jean Louis Bruguire against senior Rwanda government and army officials is about to collapse, can hardly surprise anyone who has followed the case and the background it was built on. From the outset, it was obvious that Bruguire was being used and he also was using the powerful political and military/ intelligence officers, in a game where each party had specific interests to advance. Not only was there a vindictive mission by those who sponsored the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis, there was also a mission of rewriting history about what happened in Rwanda in 1994. The Rwandan officials named by Bruguire, were always willing to put the record straight even though the magistrate had built a case without interviewing any of them.

Indeed, when Rose Kabuye was arrested in Germany, she was more than willing to go to France and face the machinery that was working to criminalise the Rwandan leadership.

She went to France to prove her innocence in a case that is ongoing. And as day follows night, the case will collapse because it was not based on fact.

It was just a clear plot of political witch hunting. That it can not be sustained in any court of law, let alone the French legal system is not surprising.

When the case finally collapses, it just should not end like that. Foremost, someone has abused the principle of universal jurisdiction and also stained the reputations of men and a lady of Great substance. Something has to be done to ensure that such abuses are not repeated.
