President Paul Kagame on Monday, July 20, announced the birth of his first grandchild, thanks to his daughter Ange Kagame and in-law Bertrand Ndengeyingoma.

The Head of State took to Twitter to announce the birth. It has since emerged that Ange, who tied the knot with Ndengeyingoma in July last year, gave birth to a bouncing baby girl at King Faisal Hospital in Kigali, on Sunday, July 19.

"Since yesterday we are very happily and 'officially' grandparents. Congratulations A&B!!..:):):) What a joy!?” Kagame tweeted on his account, adding that "First time is even more exciting!”.

 The pleasant news that took social media by storm, according to the Head of State, is very exciting being the first time.

Hundreds of people took to social media to congratulate the First Family.

"Congratulations HE @PaulKagame and @FirstLadyRwanda. I wish much happiness and joy to your family, especially to @AngeKagame and #Bertrand as they start the unparalleled journey of parenthood. We celebrate this great news with you today!,”

"Congratulations to you, Your Excellency, and your family & best wishes for the whole family. There is nothing like a grandchild to put a smile on your face and joy in your soul,” the German Embassy in Rwanda tweeted.

 "Warmest Congratulations to A&B, to the new Grandparents and the entire Family. All blessings and Happiness to the little Ange,” tweeted Rwanda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Valentine Rugwabiza.

The Minister for Public Service and Labour, Fanfan Rwanyindo, tweeted "Congratulations to the new parents and to the grandparents”, tagging President Kagame and the First Lady Mrs. Jeannette Kagame.

Ange Ingabire Kagame, the second born and only daughter of the First Family got married to Bertrand Ndengeyingoma, in a tradition ceremony in December 2018 before their official wedding in July 2019.

"Congratulations on behalf of 450 Million citizens of the EU and on my personal behalf,” EU Ambassador to Rwanda Nicola Bellomo said on Twitter.

Alice Kabagire Cyusa wrote, "Impundu, Impundu! Warmest Congratulations to the parents and to very happy & proud grandparents.”

"Some sweet news to lighten up 2020.Congratulations to the family!!!” added a one Garatia.

Reacting to the news, one Brenda Ingabire tweeted, "May the favour of the Lord and the hardworking Spirit of his or her grandparents follow him or her in Jesus name. Congraulations to our first family. Blessings.”
