Rwanda’s coronavirus tests surpassed 150,000 on Thursday, July 2, after 3,737 tests were conducted on the same day.

The test results showed that 21 new cases were identified, of which seven were from Kigali, five from Rusizi, five from Ngoma and four from Kirehe.

The new cases brought the tally of active cases to 567 against 493 recoveries.

According to the Health Ministry’s daily Covid-19 update, thirteen new patients were discharged from the Covid-19 treatment centres on the same day.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 in mid-March in Rwanda, 1,063 cases have been confirmed and three people have succumbed to the virus so far.

The tests conducted have hit 150,000 after the Ministry of Health announced that its testing capacity has been scaled up, "Because early detection of coronavirus patients is the key technique to contain the virus”.

Furthermore, Rwanda has also started the Covid-19 random tests in Kigali targeting 5,000 new tests. 

Worldwide, Covid-19 cases have hit ten million with 5.2 deaths registered. Six million have recovered from the virus.
