Every July 1, the world celebrates the International Reggae Day, also known as, "July One” that celebrates the great Jamaican music and global reggae fraternity.
RG Consult, an event management company, is organising a four-hour virtual show in honour of reggae music that has for decades been part of the music industry.
Dubbed ‘Kigali Reggae Fest 2020’ the first edition is set to premiere today, July 1.
RG Consult’s Neptunez band, and their new outfit Nep Queenz will be the performing acts of the show, as well as Nep DJs, who will be spinning back to back reggae tunes.
The show will start from 3pm to 7pm.
"We had planned to host a festival this year, with both local and international acts to celebrate reggae music that we love but Covid-19 happened. Not to lose our momentum we decided to do it in-house. Performers have been rehearsing for quite some weeks and we are certain that it will be quite entertaining for all reggae lovers,’ Remmy Lubega, CEO of RG Consult told The New Times.
The show is set be aired live on Isibo TV, an entertainment TV channel, and will also be streaming live on RG Consult’s Instagram, Facebook and YouTube channel.
Celebrating milestones
Coincidentally, the festival comes at a time when Neptunez band is also celebrating five years, and according to Lubega, it is only befitting that they stage a grand show for their fans. The group plays various genres of music like jazz, zouk, reggae and Afro.
It has had its fair share of achievements in the music industry, having come up with shows like the Kigali Jazz Junction and won a battle of the bands in 2018, among some of its major highlights.
Besides performing reggae tunes, the show is also set to RG Consult’s new outfit the NepQueenz. The new band on the block is the first all-female live band in the region. The six member band consists of a keyboardist, saxophonist, drummer, guitarist, who doubles as a vocalist and a percussionist.
"I wanted to contribute by giving a platform to the young girls to perform and showcase their talents. We have been working underground, since January this year, scouting talent, rehearsing and vocal training to produce a unique and talented all female band that will come to add life to the music industry. It's high time girls show what they have,” Lubega added.
He further hinted that the new band will not only be performing live at shows but are also currently recording their first song, which is set to be released in August this year.
"We will have a humble unveiling of our new outfit today as we prepare to reveal them to the public very soon,” he said.
