A 43-year-old man from Mubuga Cell, Musaza Sector, Kirehe District was on Sunday, June 14, arrested for allegedly sexually abusing his second-born daughter.

The suspect is currently detained in Kigarama RIB post, according to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) spokesperson, Marie-Michelle Umuhoza.

"He was arrested on Sunday, June 14, he is suspected of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl," Umuhoza told The New Times.

Umuhoza, however, said more details will be revealed from the investigation findings.

Leonard Bihoyiki, Executive Secretary of Musaza Sector, said that the suspect found the girl at his parents-in-law, "where his wife and children had relocated some time back because they were not living her husband anymore."

The incident occurred June 10, but the suspect was only arrested after his daughter shared her ordeal with her close friends on June 13, according to the local leader.

"She told it to other girls, and the girls reported the man," he explained.

According to the official, the girl says that her father pinned her down and grabbed her genitals.

He said that the girl has been taken to Kirehe District Hospital where medical tests will be carried to determine the extent of the assault.
