Rwanda’s top musicians have released a song as part of their contribution to national efforts to create awareness and educate the public about the New coronavirus pandemic.

The all-star song, dubbed, ‘Corona’, is an initiative of 1K Entertainment in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), among other partners.

Recorded by Producer Madebeat and directed by Serge Girishya, the song brings together 11 artistes namely DJ Pius, Bruce Melodie, Charly na Nina, Riderman, Danny Vumbi, Knowless Butera, Jules Sentore, Uncle Austin, Aline Gahongayire, Francois Ngarambe and Tom Close.

The latter is also among 11 artistes from 11 African countries who on Tuesday released an all-star song dubbed, ‘My White Army’, to show support and appreciation for the medical workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus battle around the world during this difficult time.

The message in the song goes beyond fighting Covid-19 as it encourages parents to help their children to revise their studies while at home. It also calls for families to live in harmony in times of the pandemic.

DJ Pius told The New Times that the idea to bring together the musicians in an all-star song was aimed at creating an impact by reminding the general public on the need to adhere to the precautionary measures against the coronavirus pandemic.

"Many of the artistes, who contributed to this song were planning to record their own songs about coronavirus, but they agreed to bring their messages together in one song because I already had a plan to do an all-star song, which I believe can contribute in raising awareness among the public on how they are supposed behave during this period,” he said.

The singer admits the song might have come out a bit late but insisted that the most important thing is that people need to know that the pandemic still exists. He believes music can play a key role in encouraging people to avoid the spread of the virus.

"The song captures all the challenges brought about by Covid-19 on general population. Schools are closed, children are at home. We know they need support to stay focussed,”

"As musicians, we thought it was a good idea not just to entertain but to also contribute to this cause by using music to educate our audience,” he added. You can watch the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eh3lCLmq-FY&feature=youtu.be
