Creative learning is being able to use critical thinking to create new ideas. Drama and storytelling, among other things, give children opportunities to build and practise vocabulary, use imagination and learn about the structure of stories. Joan Mbabazi spoke to a few learners about how they can be creative learners

Students can be creative learners in a number of ways, our imagination is our only limitation, for instance, through applying art in our learning, as it is a way to make learning fun. Art is limitless, so we can apply it to many of our subjects, like mathematics for 3D prisms, or bar charts. We can also learn how to draw or paint as it tests our capabilities in the field of imagination. Learning isn’t about sitting down and listening, rather enjoying what you learn and applying it to new things.

Creativity boosts learning through increasing motivation, extending understanding, and promoting joy. Parents should, therefore, be able to guide and assist children in discovering their passion, and support them in fulfilling it in any way possible. Learners should know that creativity requires effort. You can decide to start planting, it can be flowers, or greens in the small space you could be having at home. Flowers make the compound beautiful, yet for the greens, you can save that money that could have been spent on buying them. Creativity is also seen when students keep some space in-between their learning. Refreshing the mind to more learning requires learners to take a break and do a number of activities. Continuous learning is hectic and less productive.

Having a lot of time on my hands has pushed me to engage in more activities, not just class work. For instance, I now cook, do house chores, and bake. This is a time to start crafting a future dream, for instance, if you wish to be an author sometime, start writing now. You can write a poem, or a story as you test your ability. Get some authors that can inspire you by their books. A good writer is a committed reader. Also, for those interested in music, be guided on YouTube on how you to be a better singer and then practice. All good things start with a thought and taking a step.

I have kept myself creative and active through learning two new languages online, that is Arabic and Spanish, yet they are not part of my syllabus. It is now one month, but I am fairy good in Spanish. On top of that, I have also pursued a course online. I am also not limited to trying out new activities.
