They were popular during their days but they could not stand the test of time, each member taking his own path but the once much-loved Tuff Gang hip-hop group is coming together for a virtual show.
The rappers Bull Dogg, Fireman, Jay Polly and Green are plotting to reunite and entertain Hip-hop fans in a virtual concert slated for Saturday, May 23.
The quartet are already doing rehearsals together according to Jay Polly and are looking forward to the performance after many years of pursuing solo careers.
The rapper told The New Times that he and his compatriots agreed to share the stage this weekend following hundreds of requests from Hip-hop music fans who loved their music as a group.
"We received so many requests from our fans and we had to respond because we are there to serve them. Though we can’t perform before them physically, we are doing our best to make sure that our fans get the best performance ever,” Jay Polly said in a telephone interview.
"The fact that they want to see us performing together is not something we take for granted. It is rather an indication that they never stop showing us love and this why we never hesitated to respond to their requests,” he added.
The quartet enjoyed success together as Tuff Gang, but later chose to go solo following back to back financial disagreements which reportedly emanated from Jay Polly winning Primus Guma Guma Superstar (PGGSS) Season 4 glory and side-lined his colleagues.
They have attempted to record together as a group and organise concerts but they mostly fail, to the frustration of their fans.
Jay Polly, however, said they have put everything aside to focus on music business as a team in a bid to win back their huge fan base.
"So many people think all is not well between us because we parted ways but the truth is that we meet, we hang out and we are good friends. We wouldn’t be planning on this virtual show if we weren’t on good terms,” the rapper said.
It’s not the first time the rappers are going to grace the show as a group since their split in 2014, having previously shared a stage during the 2018 New Year East African Party.
The show will also mark the return of the duo of Fireman and Green P, who have in recent years had run-ins with the law. The former spent time in rehab at Iwawa Vocation and Rehabilitation Centre while the latter had been jailed for drug-related offences and released recently.
Rapper P Fla is also expected to join his old pals on the virtual show which will be streamed from 8pm live on MK1, a local entertainment YouTube channel, which previously streamed shows of R&B duo The Ben and Tom Close during the lockdown.
