The management of Kenya Commercial Bank Rwanda in partnership with IBUKA, on Friday, May 15, donated food supplies to 160 families of Genocide survivors in Kimironko as part of the 26th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The donation estimated at over Rwf 3 million includes a variety of foodstuffs like Rice, Maize flour, Beans, cooking oil and sugar among other nutritious foods.

The donations were also delivered after a visit by the Bank’s management and staff together with IBUKA representatives to the Genocide survivor’s community.

KCB Managing Director George Odhiambo said the world is battling a pandemic that has caused monumental damage to people’s way of living, adding that the bank is playing its part in helping the community which includes some of its clientele.

"We have always thought of our community as a big part of who we are and that’s why we decided to continue supporting them especially during this time. The donation of food supplies is a small token of our support. We also donated Rwf100 million to the Government of Rwanda to further facilitate citizens of this country, in managing the effects of COVID-19.”

Brave Olivier, IBUKA project manager who represented the organisation noted that supporting Genocide survivors especially in these hard times is commendable. 

Meanwhile, KCB Bank Rwanda has also set up different initiatives for businesses to cushion the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis. 

Among these include loan moratoriums of up to 3 months and various short-term credit options for clients.
