Ferwafa's Habimana faces rape charges

Hussein Habimana, Technical Director at the Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) was detained last month as he faces rape charges, the National Public Prosecution Authority confirmed on Monday, May 11.

Habimana's case is currently in the hands of Prosecution following a recent investigation by Rwanda Investigation Bureau.

"The case is already in the prosecution, he is a suspect of rape,” Aimable Havugiyaremye, the Prosecutor General told Times Sport, without divulging details of the case.

According to article 134 of Rwanda’s Penal Code, any person who is convicted of rape is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than ten years but not more than 15 years and a fine of not less than Rwf 1,000,000 but not more than two million Rwf 2,000,000.

Habimana has served as Ferwafa’s technical director since 2018.

According to reports, Habimana cornered one of the contestants for Miss Rwanda 2020, promising that he had the ability to help her win the crown.

He allegedly wooed the pageant to his home where he forced her into sex.
